As a
photographer I am always "looking for the light". Many
locations that people think are so beautiful - like a beach - are really
the worst possible place for photographs.
Look at this photo. Because he is wearing glasses it is a good example. Even in the scanned image you can tell the lighting is really nice. Look at his glasses - perfect. This is under the Plumaria Tree at the Entrance of A-Bay. It's a small area but it's all I need. I can get beautiful shots in just minutes in this garden setting. I honestly don't know of any other place that offers such good lighting and is right next to the Beach. Usually at beach weddings it's impossible to get good pictures. In my opinion A-Bay is the best free location in Hawaii. It can be raining everywhere in Hawaii but here at Waikoloa. Hawaii gets lots of rain - especially Kauai. I've seen the worst Disasters happen in Kauai. Sometimes the rain comes in horizontally - laughs. Even just 30 minutes away in Kailua Kona - also known for good weather - it can be very gray and cloudy and sunny and nice in Waikoloa. The sky in Maui - Honolulu - Kauai and Kona can look very gray and full of moisture. Being tropical Islands this is very common. The climate difference is caused by Mauna Kea. A-bay and Waikoloa are right at the base of this huge mountain. The climate is that of a dessert.
